Slowly Peter wakes up, remembering the recent events…

We cut to a scene involving Mary Jane and Peter's friend Betty, who was engaged to Ned Leeds and with whom (the clone of) Gwen had been staying:
Freaky.
(The clone of) Gwen decides she needs to start a new life:
And Peter (or his clone?) gets rid of the body of the other Peter:
He struggles for a while with his uncertainty about whether or not he's the "real" Peter Parker or just the clone:
But in time he gets on with his life. In 1978 he graduates from college, and proposes to Mary Jane. (His feelings for her are part of what persuades him that he's not the clone.) Mary Jane turns him down this time, but some years later they do get married. (By this time she has revealed to him that she knows he's Spider-Man.)
